About this volcanic site
Minas de San José is one of Teide National Park’s most distinctive roadside landscapes. Pale pumice, fragmented lava and volcanic ridges create a scene unlike the darker basaltic terrain found elsewhere on the island.
The viewpoint helps visitors see how explosive eruptions can produce very different deposits from fluid lava flows, adding texture and colour to the high caldera landscape.
Visitor information
Stay on marked areas and avoid collecting volcanic material. Conditions at this altitude can be cold, windy and intensely sunny.
