Montaña Reventada is one of several cones that reveal the complexity of the Teide-Pico Viejo volcanic system. Rather than one simple mountain, the central complex is surrounded by vents, cones and overlapping lava flows.

Its setting is useful for reading how flank eruptions repeatedly added new surfaces to the western highlands.
