Santa Cruz & La Laguna
Bigot House (Casa Bigot)
A 17th-century merchant house in La Laguna built for Claudio Bigot, a trader from Rouen, with a distinctive carved wooden balcony.
History & background
Bigot House was built in 1654 for Claudio Bigot, a merchant from Rouen who settled in Tenerife. The building is a reminder that La Laguna’s economy and society were connected to Atlantic trade networks far beyond the Canary Islands.
The three-storey residence is notable for its traditional timber details, including a carved wooden balcony. Commercial use at street level also reflects the close relationship between residence and business in early modern urban houses.
Visitor information
The building is viewed primarily from the street. Combine it with nearby historic houses on a self-guided old-town walk.
