Santa Cruz & La Laguna
Torrehermosa Marquis House (Casa de los Marqueses de Torrehermosa)
A grand 18th-century La Laguna house later converted into the historic Gran Hotel Aguere Continental, one of Tenerife’s early hotels.
History & background
The Torrehermosa Marquis House was built in 1736 and is one of the old town’s prominent elite residences. Its later history connects La Laguna’s aristocratic domestic architecture with the beginnings of modern tourism on Tenerife.
In 1885 the building was transformed into the Gran Hotel Aguere Continental, among the island’s earliest hotels. Today its long hospitality history makes it an unusual bridge between 18th-century urban society and the growth of visitor travel in the 19th century.
Visitor information
The building continues to function in hospitality use. Respect guest areas and check current access if you want to see interior spaces.
