How to explore Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos without a rental car — walking, buses, taxis, airport links and tour pickups.

You can do the south without a hire car
Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos form Tenerife’s most practical car-free resort corridor. Beaches, shopping, restaurants and many activities can be reached on foot or by bus, while organised excursions often include designated pickup points.
A car becomes more useful for rural villages and flexible island touring, but it is not essential for a normal beach-and-excursion holiday in the south.
Best transport by trip
Airport → south resorts
TITSA bus, taxi or pre-booked transfer.
Between Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas
Walk the promenade or use local bus/taxi.
Along Costa Adeje coast
Walk selected promenade sections; use bus or taxi for longer gaps.
Teide / Masca / island day trips
Book an organised excursion if you do not want to rent a car.
Walking the resort corridor
The seafront is the simplest transport system for short distances. Los Cristianos connects to Las Vistas and Playa de las Américas, while the coast continues toward Troya, Puerto Colón, Fañabé, El Duque and La Caleta.
Do not judge distance only by a map pin. Heat, hills, luggage and the exact hotel entrance can make a short-looking walk inconvenient.
Bus connections
TITSA operates the public bus network. Route 40 is one of the key links between Tenerife South Airport, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. Other routes connect the resort corridor with Santa Cruz, the north and inland destinations.
Airport arrival
If you are arriving at Tenerife South Airport, compare the bus stop location with your accommodation before choosing public transport. A bus station arrival is not the same as hotel-door delivery.
Car-free South Tenerife FAQ
