Teide & Central Tenerife
Los Azulejos Volcanic Formation
A colourful volcanic formation in Teide National Park where altered rocks display striking green and blue tones.
About this volcanic site
Los Azulejos stands out from Teide’s usual reds, browns and blacks because some of the volcanic rocks show blue-green tones created by mineral alteration.
The colours are a geological clue rather than painted surfaces: hot fluids altered minerals in the rock, changing its appearance long after the original volcanic material formed.
Visitor information
View the formation from authorised roadside or trail areas. Do not climb on or collect material from protected formations.
