Eastern Tenerife
Centinela Mountain Natural Monument
A protected volcanic cone near Arico with classic dry-south lava scenery, cardones, tabaibas and wide views.
About this volcanic site
Montaña Centinela is a protected volcanic cone in the municipality of Arico. The landscape is typical of Tenerife’s dry southeast, where dark volcanic ground supports sparse but highly adapted vegetation.
Cardones, tabaibas and other drought-resistant plants colonise the slopes, while kestrels and reptiles are among the common wildlife. The cone is useful for understanding the smaller volcanic landforms that shape the south beyond the better-known Teide system.
