Southern Tenerife
Los Derriscaderos Natural Monument
A protected geological landscape near Granadilla de Abona dominated by pale pumice deposits, ravines and arid south-Tenerife vegetation.
About this volcanic site
Los Derriscaderos is a Natural Monument of notable geological and geomorphological interest in Granadilla de Abona. Several ravines converge across pale volcanic terrain rich in pumice deposits produced by explosive eruptions.
The protected area also supports vegetation adapted to the dry south, including tabaibas and cardones. Its pale colours and dissected terrain make it visually different from the dark basalt landscapes more commonly associated with Tenerife.
