Southern Tenerife
Aripe Rock Engravings
A protected rock-art area near Aripe with engravings that form part of Tenerife’s indigenous archaeological record.
History & background
The Aripe rock engravings are part of the wider body of indigenous rock art documented across Tenerife. Such engravings provide evidence of symbolic activity that cannot be reconstructed from settlement remains alone.
Because rock engravings are vulnerable to erosion and deliberate damage, their archaeological context is as important as the individual marks themselves.
Visitor information
Do not touch, trace, wet or chalk engravings. Visit only where access is permitted and follow all archaeological protection guidance.
