Northern Tenerife
Barranco de Ruiz Scientific Interest Site
A protected ravine where dry coastal vegetation transitions toward humid laurel-forest communities in northern Tenerife.
About this place
Barranco de Ruiz is a protected Site of Scientific Interest shared by San Juan de la Rambla and Los Realejos. Its ecological value comes partly from the transition between dry tabaibal-cardonal vegetation and more humid forest communities.
The ravine forms the lower end of the wider Campeches, Tigaiga and Ruiz protected landscape, making it a compact introduction to the dramatic environmental gradients of Tenerife’s north coast.
