Eastern Tenerife
Herques Ravine Archaeological Landscape
A deep eastern-Tenerife ravine known for archaeological evidence connected with Guanche occupation and funerary use.
Herques Ravine is one of Tenerife’s important archaeological landscapes. Caves and shelters in the ravine have yielded evidence that helps researchers understand Guanche settlement, movement and funerary practices.
The site also shows why ravines were so important before modern roads: they provided shelter, water routes, grazing connections and naturally defensible spaces across the island’s steep terrain.
