Achbinico Cave (Cave of San Blas)

A sacred cave beside Candelaria closely connected to Guanche tradition and the early veneration of the Virgin of Candelaria.

HistoricCulture & Heritage

Achbinico Cave, later known as the Cave of San Blas, occupies an important place in the religious history of Candelaria. The cave is linked to Guanche use of the coastal area and to the early veneration of the image that became the Virgin of Candelaria.

Its importance lies in the overlap of indigenous sacred landscape and later Christian devotion, making it one of the clearest places on the island to discuss cultural continuity and transformation after the conquest.
