About Masca

Masca is a tiny, dramatically-sited mountain village in the Teno massif, in the rugged north-west of Tenerife. Perched among deep ravines and volcanic peaks, it is one of the island's most photographed places and was long one of its most isolated.

The village is reached by the winding TF-436 mountain road and rewards visitors with spectacular viewpoints. Below it, the Masca Gorge (Barranco de Masca) descends steeply to a small cove on the Atlantic.

Planning your visit

Where

Teno massif, North-West Tenerife (municipality of Buenavista del Norte).

Getting there

By the narrow, winding TF-436 road from Santiago del Teide or Buenavista. Drive carefully; parking in the village is limited.

The gorge hike

The Barranco de Masca trail descends to the coast and requires an advance reservation/permit and safety equipment under the regulated access system. Check the official Cabildo de Tenerife booking system for current rules before planning the hike.

Returning from the coast

Gorge walkers typically return by boat from the beach to Los Gigantes rather than climbing back up. Confirm current transfer arrangements when booking.
