A historic military powder-storage structure in the Taco area, part of Tenerife’s lesser-known defensive and logistical heritage.
History & background
The old gunpowder magazine at Taco belongs to the military infrastructure that supported Tenerife’s coastal defence system. Powder magazines were deliberately separated from dense urban areas because of the obvious risk of explosion.
The site adds a practical dimension to the island’s military history, complementing forts and batteries by showing the storage and supply systems that made those defences possible.
