The Centro de Interpretación Castillo de San Cristóbal sits beneath Plaza de España in Santa Cruz and preserves visible remains of the former castle that once formed a key part of the capital’s coastal defence system.
The displays place the site within Tenerife’s wider network of fortifications and include the historic cannon known as El Tigre, traditionally associated with the defence of Santa Cruz during Horatio Nelson’s failed attack in 1797.
