Camping in Tenerife

Camping in Tenerife is tightly regulated. It is only permitted in official campsites and in designated recreational camping areas (zonas de acampada), most of which sit in the island's forests and protected landscapes and are managed by the Cabildo de Tenerife. Free 'wild' camping outside these areas is not generally allowed. The forest camping areas are typically free but usually require a permit booked in advance through the Cabildo, and come with their own rules on fires, vehicles and length of stay. Always confirm the current rules and any permit before you travel.
