Northern Tenerife
San Marcos Sacred Art Museum
A sacred-art museum in Icod de los Vinos displaying religious paintings, sculpture, vestments and a monumental filigree silver cross.
About the museum
The San Marcos Sacred Art Museum preserves ecclesiastical objects associated with one of Icod de los Vinos’ principal historic churches. Its displays include embroidered vestments, religious sculpture and painting.
The best-known object is the large Filigree Cross, made in Havana in 1665 and later donated to San Marcos. Its transatlantic origin is a vivid reminder of the close connections between Tenerife, Cuba and the wider Atlantic world.
