Northern Tenerife
Las Palomas Special Nature Reserve
A humid forest reserve in the north of Tenerife protecting pine, fayal-brezal, laurel forest and endemic laurel pigeons.
About this place
Las Palomas Special Nature Reserve protects a humid forest landscape between Santa Úrsula and La Victoria de Acentejo. Trade-wind cloud supports a mosaic of Canarian pine, fayal-brezal and laurel-forest vegetation.
The reserve is especially significant for forest birds, including the endemic laurel pigeons that depend on surviving monteverde habitat. Dense vegetation and frequent mist give the area a very different character from Tenerife’s dry southern slopes.
Visitor information
Forest paths can be wet, muddy and misty. Use marked routes and check current forestry or fire restrictions before entering.
